Dear Members and Friends of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church,
As your new interim minister, this has been one of the most exciting times to begin my time with you. I have experienced the many ways that Wyoming Presbyterian prepares for Christmas and celebrates as a community—through crafts, cookies, and caroling with the children at AdventFest; decorating the beautiful sanctuary with the tree and poinsettias; the breathtaking music of Handel’s Messiah; and the many mission projects in the community. With all this activity, it’s clear that something big is coming.
The somewhat ironic challenge, of course, is to slow down enough amidst all of the extra activity so that we don’t miss the miracle itself–that is, that the all-powerful God became an all-vulnerable baby in the unlikeliest of settings—a manger. Even in the darkest night, mighty God is also God-With-Us—Emmanuel.
During my sermon on the second Sunday of Advent, I encouraged all of us to take time amidst the hustle and bustle of the season to reflect and prepare for Jesus’ birth. I liked this “Christmas Bucket List” that I saw on social media and I would like to invite you to join me as we aim to focus on a few of the most important things this season:
Let us Be Present, Send Love, and Be the Light of Christ for others.
There are additional opportunities for you to join us in the upcoming week I hope to see as many of you as are able during this time of prayer, preparation, fellowship, and joy.
May the blessings of Christ be with you this Advent and upcoming Christmas Season.
Rev. Caroline Steinemann Unzaga, Interim Pastor
