“Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool.
Psalm 132

What is Christian worship about? On Sunday’s, we gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Worship at any time is how we honor God, give glory, praise and thanksgiving to our Creator.
Why? We believe God acts with grace, mercy and love. God adopts us to be part of God’s own family so that we might include others in this loving household. So we respond with celebrations of gratitude, offerings, and learning. As we worship, we may discover our own unique purpose and be united with others to share good news with love to God and each other.

Music Ministry at Wyoming for Adults and Children

Sing to the Lord a new song,
for the Lord has done marvelous things!
Psalm 98

It is said that when we sing, we pray twice! Sound is vibration and everything vibrates, dances! Congregational singing in worship or, “making a joyful noise unto the Lord,” taps into the harmonizing of our souls with the Spirit at work in the universe in that prayerful dance.  Worship songs are often called “hymns.” During worship, hymns fall into particular categories: praise, prayer, lamentation, thanksgiving, promise, inspirational action, and many others.

The ministry of music is an opportunity for singers and instrumentalists to share their gifts beyond congregational music-making. Some opportunities require particular skills and talent while others invite beginners, novices and wanna-be’s to try something new. Might you be called to a ministry of music?

The choirs are currently on summer break.
During the year, the Chancel Choir leads music on Sundays in worship. The other choirs make special offerings throughout the year. Typical rehearsal schedules are:

  • CHANCEL CHOIR – Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. This choir is open to all people high school age and up.
  • HANDBELL CHOIR – Thursdays, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. This choir invites all ages to come and learn together.
  • PRAISE ENSEMBLE – Flexible  This ensemble combines voice and instruments for songs that are more likely heard on Christian or Gospel radio, usually termed, “praise” music or “contemporary.” High school age and up are welcome to join. Speak with Steven to learn more and join the band.
  • CHILDREN’S CHOIR – Every Sunday during the church school time, kids learn and practice music. They are led by the Director of Children’s Music, Ebony Wiggins. In addition, they lead worship and present children’s programs throughout the year.
  • INSTRUMENTALISTS – Flexible – All ages. Do you play an instrument: flute, sax, violin, keyboard, percussion, any instrument? To join others or play a solo offering in worship, please let Steven know you are interested.
  • OPEN CHOIR – From time to time, special music is offered in worship that you may want to share in offering (think Handel’s Messiah as an example). The Open Choir is offered so anyone can participate in rehearsing and offering a single “event” type piece.
